Saturday Weather Update

I’m happy to report that we fared well here in Hoke County overnight.  Our 9-1-1 Center received reports of six (6) incidents of trees down overnight and 24 Hoke County Progress Energy Customers temporarily lost power due to a downed power line. The power was restored quickly by Progress Energy and currently everyone in Hoke County has power.    Here in Raeford we received less than an inch of rain but we are continuing to see NUMEROUS SHOWERS WITH GUSTY WINDS CONTINUING OVER PARTS OF CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA DUE TO HURRICANE IRENE.....NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS CONTINUING OVER CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA...MAINLY FROM RAEFORD AND FAYETTEVILLE NORTH.  All weather advisories for our area however have been canceled with the system moving out of our area later this evening.   Currently we are seeing about 12 to 15 mph winds with occasional higher gusts.  All essential local government services are operating normally and unless conditions change DRASTICALLY this will be the last update for the weekend.  Do continue to monitor your favorite weather news channel for up-to-date and current weather conditions.  On behalf of Sheriff Peterkin, Chairman Hunt and the entire Emergency Management staff we want to thank you for your cooperation and preparedness efforts on behalf of our local preparedness efforts.  It pays to be prepared. I hope you and your families will enjoy the remaining weekend, and as always feel free to contact our office should you have any further questions or concerns.  Finally please keep our neighbors to our east especially those that were directly affected and in the path of Hurricane Irene in our thoughts and prayers.

10:20 am Saturday Update

911 Center reporting several trees down.  Power outage in the Red Springs Rd/Cope Rd area and Fulton St/Fayetteville Rd Area.  No known flooding issues.  We are on the back side of the storm now but can still get some more rain.
